Hello! I'm Fiona
Way back in the '80s, I was taught to knit by my mother. I come from a family of knitters and seamstresses but knitting and sewing never really grabbed me. Music did and that took me on a fun journey through London and my 20s.
Some time in 2004 I was made redundant from my first job out of university. Fed up of fruitless job applications, I wandered up to a department store on Holloway Road, bought a pair of cheap needles and some wool for a couple of quid. I sat on You Tube and re-taught myself to knit until one of those job applications became successful.
Over the next few years, I started hanging around in Loop, Angel, equally as much as I thumbed through records. I discovered the delights of knitting shows and was overwhelmed with glee when I moved to Crouch End and discovered a new knitting shop, Nest, had just opened. My Ravelry queue grew and so did my family.
A little over a year ago, I left London for the countryside and at the end of maternity leave found myself wanting a new challenge. I approached Gina, my mother-in-law and knitter in crime, to see if she wanted to while away her retirement years in business with me. We looked at all the wonderful knitting options around us and decided that we wanted to do something different, something which showcased all the possibilities that knitting has to offer, the amazing people who are creating their own yarn, building their own knitting design businesses and craft beautiful products.
Sonic Knits was born.
